All accredited press are invited to cover the 2001 AAPS Annual Meeting and
Exposition, October 21-25 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver,
Colorado. This is the premier meeting place for more than 8,000 pharmaceutical
scientists from around the world where you can reach the scientists that are
conducting the latest pharmaceutical research! Programming will consist of 70
educational sessions, including symposia, short courses, roundtable
discussions, and 2,000 contributed papers presented in both poster and podium
format. Check back here frequently for updates on press conferences and other
events to be held onsite at the AAPS Annual Meeting Press Room.

Sunday, Oct. 21, 4:30 pm-6:30 pm-Opening Session features keynote speaker
Donald P. Francis, M.D., D.Sc., President and Co-Founder of VaxGen, Inc. Dr.
Francis' efforts to call attention to the AIDS threat were chronicled in the
book and movie And The Band Played On, journalist Randy Shilts' account of the
early years of the AIDS epidemic.

Monday, Oct. 22, 8:30 am-12:00 pm-Plenary Session provides insight into state
of the art technologies, the information created by these technologies, and the
context in which drug development progresses in the ever more sophisticated
regulatory environment.

Monday, Oct. 22, 1:30 pm-5:00 pm-Symposium entitled "Analysis and
Pharmaceutical Quality of Biotechnology Derived Products: From Development to
Production" discusses current analytical and bioanalytical techniques for the
analysis and quality considerations of biotechnology-derived products in the
laboratory and production settings.

Monday, Oct. 22, 1:30 pm-5:00 pm-Symposium entitled "Genomics: Impact on Drug
Discovery and Marketing in the New Millennium" provides an overview of the
emerging field of pharmacogenomics and its impact on drug discovery and
marketing.

Monday, Oct. 22, 1:30 pm-5:00 pm-Symposium entitled "Pharmacokinetics and
Pharmacodynamics Issues in the Elderly" includes a regulatory perspective from
the FDA on the design and conduct of clinical studies in the elderly.

Tuesday, Oct. 23, 1:30 pm-5:00 pm-Symposium entitled "Role of Drug Transporters
in the Brain" will have important implications for the treatment of serious CNS
disorders and providing new strategies in drug design, delivery and targeting
to the brain.

Wednesday, Oct. 24, 7:00 am-8:15 am-Open Session entitled "Pediatric Rule:
Mandating Clinical Trials in Children: Is it Time to End the Guesswork in Dose
Selection for Children?" explores how the pharmaceutical industry and
regulatory authorities are working together to answer the questions: what are
the dose selection criteria in pediatrics and where are we heading?

Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2:00 pm-4:00 pm-Roundtable entitled "Current Oversight of
Gene Therapy-Is It Adequate?" discusses how gene therapy is different from
other types of medicine, and whether the oversight that was developed for other
types of medicine is adequate for gene therapy.

AAPS will host a Press Room in Room A-214 of the Colorado Convention Center.
Please feel free to use this room for your interviews, phone calls, faxes and a
quiet place to do reading and research. AAPS staff will be happy to assist you
in setting up interviews with scientists attending the meeting. AAPS staff can
also provide you access to key AAPS spokespersons including AAPS President
Ronald Borchardt and AAPS President-Elect Diane Burgess.

Credentials for Press Registration
|
Proper credentials are required to receive a press pass for the AAPS Annual
Meeting. These credentials include: a recognized press card, a current National
Association of Science Writers (NASW), Canadian Science Writers Association
(CSWA), International Science Writers Association (ISWA), or Society of
Environmental Journalists (SEJ) membership card, a business card clearly
showing media affiliation and position (such as editor, writer, producer,
reporter, etc.), or a letter on official letterhead from an editor of a
publication or a producer of a program certifying that you are covering the
meeting for their respective organization. Spouses and other guests of
journalists cannot register as press and must pay the regular registration fee.
Ad sales representatives, publishers and others must register through the AAPS
Meetings Department and pay the registration fee.
