Scientific Journals: AAPS PharmSci

SPECIAL ISSUES: THEME ISSUES AND SPECIAL FEATURES

Theme Issues

Purpose

  • To highlight emerging trends in drug discovery, development and therapy, and related disciplines, including biotechnology, bioengineering, neutraceuticals, genomics, bioinformatics
  • To provide a specialized publication forum for AAPS Sections and Focus Groups
  • To solicit active participation from scientists (junior and senior levels) as Guest Editors

Organization of Theme Issues

  • A Theme Issue shall contain at least 5 research articles or reviews and remain open for ~1 year.
  • Any Theme Issue can turn into a yearly ‘periodical’ with at least 5 articles/year.
  • The Editor-in-Chief appoints volunteer Guest Editors (or current Editors of AAPS :PharmSci) for each Theme issue upon nomination by Sections, Focus Groups, or individual AAPS members (including self). Guest Editors may be re-appointed for additional years/issues. The AAPS office administers the editorial process, including the contacting of referees.
  • Guest Editors assign referees, evaluate the manuscript, request revisions, and recommend acceptance or rejection to an Editor of AAPS PharmSci assigned to the Theme Issue.
  • To be appointed, Guest Editors have to propose a brief outline of the planned Theme Issue, including the names of 5 individuals who have agreed to submit an article.
  • Once three articles have been submitted, the Theme Issue will be posted on the AAPS PharmSci site, with the designated Guest Editor(s), to encourage general submissions.
  • All Theme Issue articles are peer- reviewed in the same way regular articles are reviewed. Each article will also appear in the regular current issue of AAPS PharmSci. Authors should request inclusion of an article submitted to AAPS PharmSci with a specified Theme Issue.

Special Features

  • This includes any articles, monographs, or Web sites that build on a common theme or require special features in electronic publishing.
  • Special features may involve cumulative multiple author papers, interactive graphics and simulations, building a database in specialized areas (chemical stability, genomics, etc), docking of chemicals into proteins, etc.
  • The Editor-in-Chief appoints volunteer Guest Editors/Senior Authors for Special Features upon nomination by Sections, Focus Groups, or individual AAPS members (including self).
  • Special Features may involve one or more senior authors/Guest Editor, and multiple authors that contribute information on a continuing basis where applicable. An AAPS PharmSci Editor is assigned to the Special Features article.
  • Special Features will remain open for up to three years dependent upon the nature of the topic. Some multi-author, interactive databases may remain open indefinitely.
  • Information introduced into Special Features must be peer reviewed as appropriate.

To develop a Theme Issue or Special Feature, send your proposal to Editor-in-Chief Dr. Wolfgang Sadée at sadee-1@medctr.osu.edu
