Overview
The Visiting Scientist Program was initiated in 1985 and has been growing ever
since. The purpose of the program is to provide an opportunity for
pharmaceutical scientists to visit schools of pharmacy of their choice and to
share their knowledge and experience with undergraduate and graduate students.
The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) is the coordinator
of the program. The following organizations are
co-sponsors
:
-
American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS)
-
American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP)
-
American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP)
-
American Pharmaceutical Association Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and
Science (APhA)
-
Generic Pharmaceutical Association (GPhA)
-
Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA)
Objectives
This rewarding program is specifically designed to provide a solid educational
resource based on the following objectives:

Expose undergraduate pharmacy students to research in the pharmaceutical
sciences
and to encourage them to consider graduate work for an advanced degree,
-
Expose pharmacy students to career opportunities in the pharmaceutical
industry,
-
Provide schools of pharmacy and their faculties with access to industry
scientists
with working expertise,
-
Increase communications and to foster information exchange between academia,
industry scientists and students, and
-
Convey to students and faculties the complexities, challenges, and costs
associated with drug discovery, development, production, quality control, and
marketing.
