What is the purpose of the
AAPS Distance Learning program?
The purpose is to provide AAPS members and the scientific community
with new venues for continuing professional development, to enable wide participation without the need for travel, hotels, or time away
from work and family. Will these events replace AAPS' live on-site courses and symposia?
No, these programs are conducted in addition to on-site events. The
Distance Learning courses represent an added benefit to
our members.
How will these courses be formatted?
This depends on the nature of the content. Typically, multi-media short courses
will be offered in the CD-ROM format. Text-based programs will be presented on the
Education Anytime Web site. We will even offer video programs, when appropriate.
What sort of computer and software will
I need to participate?
For best results, a Pentium or equivalent class PC is recommended. All Education Anytime
events are tested on a Pentium 75 MHz machine with 48 mb of memory, a 4x CD-ROM
drive and standard sound card. You will need at least a 28.8 kbps connection to the
Internet. If special software is required for a particular event, we will either include
it on the CD-ROM at no extra charge, or provide a link to the appropriate download site.
If the program is
presented on the Web, will I need to access the material at a certain time, or take the course in one sitting? No. You may
come and go as you please, anytime day or night. You may access part of a speaker's
presentation on one day, and return another time to continue. The only
exception will be for audio teleconference seminars with Web-based
visual. These events are live, presented one-time only.
Can I participate in an on-line event from
both home and office?
Yes. For Web-based short courses, your password will allow you to access the material from
any computer equipped with a Web browser and an Internet connection.
What happens after I register for a
Web-based event?
You will be assigned a password for access to the special Web pages containing the event
for which you registered. You may then begin reviewing the course material.
Is it permissible to share my password with a
coworker?
AAPS Distance Learning professional development events are offered on an
individual basis. In fairness to other fee-paying participants, we cannot permit the
sharing of access codes.
If the course content is text-based, may I make a hard copy of the material?
Yes. We would not expect you to read an entire course on screen.
However, any printout you produce is for your own use. Photocopying the material for
further distribution would be a violation of copyright.
Will I have the opportunity to offer general feedback on
your distance learning events?
Yes, you may click here to submit your comments.
