Pharmaceutical Technologies Section

What is the Pharmaceutical Technologies (PT) Section?

The Pharmaceutical Technologies (PT) Section is a body of pharmaceutical scientists involved in developing an understanding of the pharmaceutics, engineering, and materials sciences principles underlying drug delivery technologies and applying these principles to the research, design, development, manufacture, and quality of drug delivery systems. A major focus of the PT Section is pharmaceutical formulation and manufacturing process technology, with emphasis on improved control of product performance and process parameters. Focus Groups on Inhalation Technology, Sterile Products, Process Control, Preformulation and a newly formed group on Pharmaceutical Polymers form a base for members to discuss emerging trends within their fields of interest.

The PT Section serves the needs of its members by providing technical and professional forums for the open interchange, dissemination, and promotion of scientific knowledge and current developments in the areas of applied research, pharmaceutical sciences, technologies, and manufacturing. This section further seeks to recognize individual achievements in these areas and to foster career growth and personal development of its members through training, educational services, and cooperative programs with other organizations.

Does PT Sponsor Awards?

The AAPS Research Achievement Award in Pharmaceutical Technologies is presented every other year at the AAPS Annual Meeting to recognize an outstanding scientist who has conducted fundamental research that has had a significant impact in the field. The PT Section also annually nominates individuals who have made outstanding contributions elevating the stature of the pharmaceutical sciences for the designation of AAPS Fellow. The AAPS Young Investigator Grant in Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technologies is presented each year to support academic researchers during the early stages of their careers. Students in their final year of graduate studies leading to the Ph.D. degree are invited to enter the AAPS Graduate Symposium in Drug Delivery and Pharmaceutical Technologies. Designed to recognize excellence in graduate education, this Symposium is held each year at the AAPS Annual Meeting.
