Medicinal and Natural Products Chemistry (MNPC) Section
ABOUT THE MNPC SECTION
The Medicinal and Natural Products Chemistry Section encourages the generation
of knowledge concerning the chemistry, biochemistry, and pharmacological
actions of synthetic and naturally occurring medicinal agents. Research
activities leading to this knowledge involve synthesis, drug design, and
targeting using molecular modeling, use of microbial or mammalian enzyme
systems for the prediction and production of mammalian drug metabolites,
isolation of biologically active natural products from plant, animal, and
microbial sources and their characterization through modern spectroscopic
methods, and the relation of chemical structure and subsequent modification to
pharmacological activity. An objective of the MNPC Section is to provide a
forum for an interaction among scientists from academia as well as from
industry. At annual and regional meetings, member scientists are given the
opportunity to present new data and exchange research ideas in continuing the
advancement of their field of activity. These meaningful convention
experiences are mediated through Section-sponsored symposia, workshops,
seminars, and contributed papers sessions.
The MNPC Section is truly unique among scientific organizations serving
medicinal and natural products chemistry by providing a single organization
for all members associated with these closely related sciences. The
multidisciplinary nature of this section and of AAPS is conducive to a
productive interaction between all segments of the basic pharmaceutical
sciences. For this reason, the MNPC Section is committed to joint symposia and
other programs with various AAPS Sections in an effort to provide an
atmosphere for the professional growth of its member scientists.
