Analysis and Pharmaceutical Quality Section (APQ)

The Analysis and Pharmaceutical Quality (APQ) Section of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) is composed of members whose interests are in the areas of analytical methods development for bulk drug substances as well as drugs in pharmaceutical dosage forms and biological fluids, and methods and procedures for assuring that quality is designed into pharmaceutical products. APQ provides a forum for the exchange of information pertaining to analytical techniques, regulatory and compendial issues, and assurance of quality. By its very nature, APQ is an area which interacts continually with the other disciplines involved in the development and production of pharmaceutical products, and many of its programs and activities are undertaken with other sections of the Association.

APQ Section Newsletters

The Section Newsletter was established to facilitate communication with section membership. The first issue was published in the spring of 1991. The newsletter will be used as a means of communicating actions of the Executive Committee, committee activities, accomplishments, section awards, etc.

The AAPS-APQ Publications-Publicity Committee prepares and publishes this newsletter. For information on or input to the newsletter, contact the chair of the AAPS-APQ Publications-Publicity Committee:

Analytical Profiles of Drug Substances and Excipients

The Analytical Profiles series consists of an annual publication of detailed monographs which cover the full range of physical characteristics and analytical methodology associated with drug compounds and excipients. Volumes are assembled on a rolling basis and published by Academic Press (San Diego, CA), with each volume typically consisting of 15-20 chapters written by volunteer authors.

Volume 25 was published in 1998, and contained profiles on the following compounds: Adenosine, Cefixime, Clomiphene citrate, Guaifenesin, Mebeverine hydrochloride, Mesalamine, Metformin hydrochloride, Pentoxifylline, Povidone-Iodine, Praziquantel, Tranylcypromine sulfate, and Zileuton

Contributions for inclusion in volume 26 and beyond are now being accepted. A large number of compounds remain to be profiled, and the full list of available compounds may be obtained from the editor. For more information please contact:
