AAPS Presents Workshop on Dissolution
ARLINGTON, Va. - The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists
(AAPS) will present the AAPS Workshop on Dissolution: Current and Emerging Practices
- Methodology, Technology and Regulatory Issues, May 7-8 at the Crystal Gateway
Marriott in Arlington, Va.
Dissolution testing plays a critical role in several major phases of a pharmaceutical's
life cycle. Dissolution is used to evaluate new formulations, to examine the
stability of dosage forms, and as a measure in the quality assurance/quality
control areas. Dissolution can also be used as a replacement for some in-vivo
studies in the Food and Drug Administration’s Abbreviated New Drug Application
process. The workshop will explore the current issues surrounding dissolution
testing and examine the most important changes in the field.
This workshop, co-sponsored with United States Pharmacopeia (USP), will focus
on three major areas. The Calibration session will address the current issues
from industry, usp and fda perspectives. The Biopharmaceutical Classification
System session will examine the intent and extent of the changes to the drug
approval process from industry and fda perspectives. The New and Non-Traditional
Methodologies and Technologies session will present a number of methods, techniques
and technologies that may become integral to the future of dissolution testing.
The New and Non-Traditional Methodologies and Technologies session will also
examine several new and exciting dose forms that have presented unique challenges
to traditional dissolution testing.
Participants will have an opportunity to meet with suppliers, including AC
Compacting LLC, Delphian Technology L.P., Erweka USA, Inc., LEAP Technologies,
Sotax Corp., and VanKel Technology Group. Additional information on the AAPS
Workshop on Dissolution can be found on AAPS Pharmaceutica at www.aapspharmaceutica.com/dissolution.
