AAPS Honors Millennial Pharmaceutical Scientists

Alexandria, VA -- March 8, 2000 -- The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) will honor Ronald T. Borchardt, Ph.D. and Milo Gibaldi, Ph.D. as "Millennial Pharmaceutical Scientists" for their outstanding contributions to the pharmaceutical sciences at the Millennial World Congress of Pharmaceutical Sciences, to be held in San Francisco, California, April 16-20, 2000.

Dr. Borchardt is president-elect of AAPS, an AAPS Fellow, and recipient of the 1997 AAPS Distinguished Pharmaceutical Scientist Award and the 1993 AAPS Research Achievement Award in Biotechnology. Dr. Gibaldi is an AAPS Fellow and the recipient of the 1996 AAPS Research Achievement Award in Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics and Drug Metabolism.

Dr. Borchardt and Dr. Gibaldi are among 21 pharmaceutical scientists from around the world chosen for this honor by seven Millennial World Congress sponsoring organizations and the Congress Awards Committee. Each sponsoring organization chose two recipients to be honored and an additional seven awardees were selected from each of the three major research areas in the world where pharmaceutical scientists are represented, Asia-Pacific, North America and Europe.

Other AAPS members to be honored include Douwe D. Breimer, Ph.D.; Dominique Duchêne, Ph.D.; William I. Higuchi, Ph.D.; Jindrich Kopecek, Ph.D.; Robert S. Langer, Ph.D.; Gerhard Levy, Ph.D.; Tsuneji Nagai, Ph.D.; Malcolm Rowland, Ph.D.; Hitoshi Sezaki; Ph.D.; Michel M. Veillard, Ph.D.; and Alejandro A. Zaffaroni, Ph.D.

At the opening ceremony of the Millennial World Congress, these 21 scientists will each receive an honorarium of $2,000 and a plaque designating their selection as a Millennial Pharmaceutical Scientist. Full details about the Congress may be found at www.mwc2000.org.
