AAPS Announces 2001 Leadership
President-Elect,
Member-At-Large and Treasurer Elected to Lead Scientific Association
ARLINGTON, Va. —Diane J. Burgess,
Ph.D., Professor of Pharmaceutics at the University of Connecticut,
has been voted President-Elect for the 10,000-member American Association
of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS). She joins 2001 AAPS President Ronald
T. Borchardt, Ph.D., Immediate Past President Richard F. Bergstrom,
Ph.D., and Treasurer Marjorie A. Mohler, Ph.D., as officers
on the 2001 AAPS Executive Council.
The new AAPS Member-at-Large, elected to a three-year
term, is John "Jay" M. Sisco, Ph.D., Senior Director,
Lead Optimization at Pfizer Global Research and Development.
"I look forward to my term as AAPS President,"
said Burgess. "AAPS, the community of pharmaceutical scientists and
the pharmaceutical industry face many challenges as we move into this
new millennium, including those brought on by the information explosion
and the rapid advances in informatics, genomics, tissue engineering and
materials sciences. This is a very exciting time to be so closely involved
with AAPS, and I am very honored to be given this opportunity to serve
the AAPS membership. I am confident that AAPS will be prepared to meet
the challenges that we face and continue to provide its members with the
highest level of service."
Newly elected AAPS Section leaders include:
- Beverly Nickerson, Ph.D., Secretary/Treasurer,
Analysis and Pharmaceutical Quality;
- David G. Rhodes, Ph.D., Vice-Chair, Biotechnology;
along with Zahra Shahrokh, Ph.D., Secretary/Treasurer;
- Patrick D. O’Meara., Ph.D., Vice-Chair, Clinical
Sciences;
- Craig A. Pedersen, R.Ph., Ph.D., Vice-Chair,
Economic, Marketing, and Management Services, along with Thani Jambulingam,
Ph.D., Secretary;
- Peter W. Schiller, Ph.D., Vice-Chair, Medicinal
and Natural Products Chemistry;
- Ronald L. Smith, Ph.D., Vice-Chair, Pharmaceutics
and Drug Delivery;
- Ronald J. Sawchuk, Ph.D., Vice-Chair, Pharmacokinetis,
Pharmacodynamics and Drug Metabolism;
- Alpaslan Yaman, Ph.D., Vice-Chair, Pharmaceutical
Technologies; and
- Marilyn N. Martinez, M.S., Ph.D., Vice-Chair,
Regulatory Sciences.
These leaders assume their new roles on January 1, 2001.
