AAPS Announces 2002 Leadership President-Elect, Two
Members-At-Large Elected to Lead Scientific Association
ARLINGTON, Va.
- Vinod P. Shah, Ph.D., Senior Research Scientist, Center for
Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), Food and Drug
Administration (FDA), has been voted President-Elect for the
11,000-member American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists
(AAPS). He joins 2002 AAPS President Diane J. Burgess, Ph.D.,
Immediate Past President Ronald T. Borchardt, Ph.D., and
Treasurer Marjorie A. Mohler, Ph.D., as officers on the 2002
AAPS Executive Council.
“I am excited about advancing the cause of AAPS and making a
difference in the pharmaceutical sciences,” said Shah. “AAPS is
now one of the most prestigious associations of its kind in the
world. AAPS must be responsive to the diversified needs and wishes of
all of its members. During my tenure, I will strive to develop strategies
to increase the influence and enhance the prestige of pharmaceutical
sciences worldwide, expand the cutting-edge meetings and workshops in
partnership with other national and international professional associations,
and develop means to effectively distribute its knowledge internationally.”
Dr. Shah is author/co-author of more than 175 scientific publications.
Shah has been the recipient of several awards during his career in
pharmaceutical science including: CDER/FDA awards for leadership excellence,
team excellence and excellence in communication, FDA Awards of Merit (1981,1988)
and Scientific Achievement (2000), AAPS Presidential Citation (1989)
and AAPS Distinguished Service Award (2000).
The two new AAPS Members-at-Large, elected to a
three-year term, are Steven J. Shire, Ph.D., Senior Research Scientist,
Genentech, Inc. and Kevin R. Sweeney, Ph.D., Associate Professor of
Pharmaceutics, University of Connecticut.
